Gestalt Play Therapy for Children and Adolescents

In my practice with children and adolescents, I utilize the Oaklander Method of Gestalt Play Therapy a gentle, deeply respectful approach that recognizes play as a child's natural language. When young people experience emotional distress, trauma, or behavioral challenges, they often lack the complex vocabulary needed to express their internal struggles. The Oaklander Model bridges this gap by using creative and expressive media such as sandtray therapy, clay, drawing, puppets, and storytelling cards to give form to their inner worlds.

Rather than analyzing or trying to "fix" a child from the outside, I focus on building a strong, authentic therapeutic relationship rooted in safety and trust. Through creative externalization, children can safely project their confusing thoughts, anger, or fears onto playful mediums. This process helps them strengthen their sense of self, discover their own innate resilience, and learn healthy ways to regulate and express intense emotions. By helping them make sense of their experiences in the present moment, this approach fosters genuine healing and empowers young people to step securely into their own emotional safety.
